Program Outline

Expectations of participants

Elevate is an exclusive program, and candidates are selected based on merit and perceived potential through the eligibility criteria.

If you are selected, IBA expects:

  • full commitment to all required activities for the duration of the program (noting these may interfere with current work and other commitments), including:
  • attending board meetings (usually quarterly)
  • completing educational opportunities provided
  • attending IBA workshops (if applicable)
  • communication with IBA program lead on a regular basis
  • enthusiasm to seek further education and opportunities.

If not already completed, participants will be required to attend the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) Company Directors Course, with expenses supported by IBA. If already completed, IBA may provide other opportunities for further education if suitable.

Candidates may elect to be assigned an IBA Nominee Director as a mentor, who may sit on the same subsidiary board. At the commencement of the program each candidate and mentor will be provided a guide that sets out their roles and responsibilities and confirms their commitment for the duration of the program.

Timelines

The program is expected to commence in 2024 and run for a period of 18 months. At the completion of the program participants may be invited to extend their participation in the program or be invited to join IBA’s pipeline of capable Indigenous non-executive directors for boards of IBA Investments subsidiary companies.

Board meetings

Each subsidiary board meets a minimum of four times per year, and participants are expected to attend all board meetings as an observer. The location of meetings will vary based on the location of the subsidiary, and travel may be required. There may be the option to attend some meetings via phone or video.

IBA Nominee Directors Workshops and Induction

IBA hopes that candidates will have the opportunity to attend an IBA Nominee Directors Workshop, however this will depend on timing and if a workshop occurs during the program. This is an opportunity for all IBA Nominees and Elevate candidates to come together and share experiences, challenges and ideas, and to seek guidance from IBA regarding specific governance issues.

Mentoring

An optional part of the program is working with a mentor, to develop a mutually beneficial relationship for ongoing development and extended networking opportunities.

A suitable mentor can be assigned to participants based on background and experience. All mentors are participating voluntarily in addition to their director duties.

Ideally, meetings with mentors should occur prior to and following board meetings, to discuss the Board packs and prepare for the meeting, as well as review the outcomes. Additional meetings can be scheduled as required.
