That's a wrap for 2022 SBS Small Business Secrets

IBA partnered with SBS Small Business Secrets again this year to feature four First Nations businesses doing what they do best. The segments were featured on SBS and NITV, and this was the third year we have supported the production of the series.

SBS produced a special NAIDOC segment that kicked off the week and wrapped it up with Standley Chasm and Amber Days included. Earlier in the year, we had segments on Cooee Cafe and Ngarga Warendj.

This year’s segments were also translated into Mandarin and Spanish as the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) shared them worldwide through their social channels during NAIDOC week and screened in the DFAT lobby in Canberra.

• Amber Days tells the story of how Corina Muir started her business to create an ethical and sustainable clothing line when her daughter was born five years ago. Now she featured on the Melbourne Fashion Week runway. IBA’s David Deo talk about how Corina had an idea and passion for her business and looked to IBA for support to build her business acumen. • Standley Chasm showcases the beauty of Angkerle Atwatye (Standley Chasm) outside of Alice Springs on Arrernte Country. Nova Pomare talks about getting a tourism business through COVID with support from IBA. Business Solutions representative Rachel Harding talks about the inspiration of Nova as a mentor and trainer for young First Nations workers. • Cooee Café & Catering was founded by Sharon Brindley who shares the story of how her mob and her connection to Country is at the core of everything that she does. She pivoted her business during COVID to launch Jala Jala chocolates with an Indigenous twist. • Ngarga Warendj ('dancing wombat') is Mick Harding’s family business. Mick started the business because he wanted to create authentic quality artwork that shares his culture with the world. He creates wood pieces like clapsticks and wooden boards as well as commissioned pieces.
